We are a people of God who want to share the love of Jesus with the world under the power of the Holy Spirit.

MWC is a church body and member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (WMCANZ). The WMCANZ is a national church body established in 2000 and comprises some 30 multicultural member churches throughout NZ. WMCANZ is one of the fastest-growing church denominations in NZ. More about the WMCANZ can be found on their website https://wesleyan.nz/about/.

In 2014, members of the Shore Grace Wesleyan Methodist Church in Greenhithe cast a vision for planting a WMCANZ church in the developing suburb of Millwater. From initial meetings as a bible study, an evening service at the Kingsway Primary facility developed under the guidance and part-time assistance of Rev Mike Yates, Pastor of Shore Grace.

In 2015, Rev Dr John Bailie was appointed as the first full-time Minister, and the services moved to morning worship in Kingsway Primary School Hall. The church name changed to Millwater Wesleyan with time to better reflect our Wesleyan identity.

In early 2022, Rev Denise Barrington was appointed as Senior Minister after Rev Dr John Bailie accepted a call to ministry in Australia.

MWC has a strong sense of Kingdom community focus. We exist to serve the community of Millwater and its surroundings. We have and continue to develop ministries such as Learning English for non-English speakers, Rebuilders Men’s Ministry for men from all walks of life, Limitless Wellness our free professional mental health initiative and monthly financial support for local charities such as Love Soup in feeding the need, Hibiscus Hospice in palliative care, Christians Against Poverty for lifting debt and empowering people and the Hibiscus Coast Youth Centre for support and upliftment of troubled Youths. As our congregation continues to grow, we aim to continue to grow our ministries so that we may provide Kingdom, long-term sustainable care for people in our community (Matthew 25: 31-46).
